About our Venues

After a 2-year reinvestment project that restored and renovated the Wisconsin Union Theater, we are pleased to be open again! The west wing of Memorial Union now includes the following spaces that support performing arts events:

  • Shannon Hall: (Seats 1165) This space features beautifully restored historic features in the house, and many technical upgrades behind the scenes, including improved acoustic isolation, new heating/cooling systems, improved load-in facilities, and an expanded orchestra pit.
  • Fredric March Play Circle: (Seats 186; room capacity = 300) Retractable seating and flexible technical features give this space a “black box” feel.

ELIGIBILITY & SPONSORSHIP

The following groups can request theater space for an event:

  • UW-Madison Registered Student Organizations
  • UW-Madison departments
  • Government agencies
  • Wisconsin Union Corporate Members

Groups that do not fit one of these categories must be sponsored by a university department. A sponsorship letter signed by a Dean, Provost, or Chancellor is required.  See Event Planners Handbook for more details.

AVAILABILITY & BOOKING

All requests to use the theater must be submitted using our on-line form. It is available on the Union website at: http://www.union.wisc.edu/theaterrequest/.
You will be contacted by union staff shortly after submitting the form. Groups may request specific dates or may request a date range. Events that have flexible date options are more likely to be accommodated.

Submitting a request does not guarantee space in the theater; a booking is completed once theater availability has been confirmed and a contract has been signed. Looking at the calendar on the Wisconsin Union Theater’s website is not a good indicator of space availability, as events such as rehearsals and tech days do not show up on that calendar. The best way to find out about availability is to submit a request using the on-line form.

For the 14-15 academic year: Requests can be submitted at any time and will be filled pending availability.

For the 15-16 academic year: Submit requests by March 15, 2015 to receive consideration and confirmation (pending availability) by April 1, 2015.
